We enjoy walking the mile on the beach to Los Barriles for breakfast at Martin Verdugo’s. This tradition began 6 years ago, shortly after we moved to Los Barriles from Cabo. Our foreign exchange student from Taiwan, Angel, was with us, and we decided it would be fun to walk to town for breakfast. We chose Martin Verdugo’s as the destination. Mary decided to drive the car to town so we would not have to walk back.
So Angel, Stefi, Niki and I started the walk down the beach. It was a hot, very sunny day, and the girls forgot to take hats. Not good with their very dark hair. Also, I was not quite sure how to find Martin Verdugo’s from the beach. By the time we got to town, the girls were very wilted with less than optimal attitudes (to put it mildly). THEN we walked right past Martin Verdugo’s and went another half mile before I realized the mistake. They were NOT happy with Dad when he announced we had to turn around and go back the way we came. However, we DID make it. We DID NOT die. Mary DID wonder what was taking us so long. I look back on that walk and think of it as the Death March.
We DO enjoy the walk to town on the beach, but since that time, I always make sure the girls have hats before we make that trek.
