The seabirds here in Los Barriles are easy to photograph on windy days like today. I just sit on our condo’s terrace and wait for them to sail by. I have been watching these particular birds for weeks. I did not know what they were called (remember, I grew up in Iowa, a LONG way [...]

Los Barriles is such a great place to expand our group of friends; we are always meeting nice people. On this trip, we have met Greg and Dari McKim, over at Vista del Mar, about 0.7 mile down the beach to the south from Mar y Sol, where we live now. We met them when [...]

I don’t want the series of sunrise pictures from Los Barriles looking over the Sea of Cortez to become monotonous, so I decided to try something different. This picture was taken on a dark, cloudy morning with a telephoto lens rather than my trusty wide-angle. I could have lightened up this picture but decided to [...]

The last few days have been very windy with whitecaps. I keep mentioning that the kiteboarders and sailboarders are in heaven. It occurred to me I haven’t shown any pictures of kiteboarders, so today I grabbed this picture from right in front of the condo. I don’t kiteboard, but am fascinated by the kites they [...]

It was another great dawn this morning. I have discovered that it is best to be in position to watch the sky about an hour to 45 minutes before sunrise. This will allow you to get your equipment set up and to see the complete transition through the blue hour. I like to be there [...]

Hey, whaddya know?! I CAN take a non-HDR, non-sunrise photo! The pelicans remind me of WW-II-era PBY Catalinas. Or maybe pterodactyls.

My daughter, Niki, is taking a photography course with the specific subject being a computer program called GIMP (graphical image manipulation program). This is a free and very powerful Photoshop-like program which runs on WIndows, Mac and Linux. A few weeks ago, one of her lessons was on the subject of high dynamic range (hdr) [...]

OK, here is the answer to my audio puzzle. Take a look at this video shot from the terrace of our condominium: And here is another close-up video: These are flying or leaping mobula rays, a cousin of the manta ray. Nobody knows why they do this, but it is quite a show. You can [...]

Well, I have definitely been remiss in my posting about our big adventure. I will soon write more about how we got here and what we have been doing, but for today I have an audio puzzle for you. We are currently in Los Barriles, BCS, Mexico and have been having a great time. There [...]
